The Little Theory / Sibling of Minimalism

Writer's picture: Nina StefanovaNina Stefanova

If minimalism concerns the amount of the belongings the Little Theory of mine is all about choosing and using belongings with little size.

Let say you have a plate. Just an ordinary one. It can hold quite a lot of food. What if you switch it for the so-called dessert dish and use it for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Where are the benefits? The first one is really obvious. Less food in your dish and hopefully not so many refills. What about the maintenance and the cleaning - the effort, the time, the water, the storage? It's so more beneficial for you than the ordinary plate. So I seriously recommend you to own just dessert dishes. OK, maybe one or two platters for the big gatherings and for the fishtail.

You can apply this logic to almost any other item in your house. Big, bulky things occupy your space more successfully, take your energy more successfully so they equal to more effort, time and resources.

I really think that too many objects of our daily life are unnecessary over-sized: towels of all sorts, kitchen sponges, cutlery, cups, oh yeah cups, especially for tea and coffee. Sofas are coming to my mind. Thousand inches of TV screens. The wardrobes are always an exception to this rule.

You are free to neglect the little thoughts above. But everything matters, everything builds up. Start with an eating set of a teaspoon, salad fork and a bread plate. N
